Loco for 'El Loco': Mexican Cantina at the Heart of Sydney CBD

Slip in to the Slip Inn for a Mexican fiesta this weekend. Situated at the heart of Sydney's CBD, El Loco is all parts fun, and only a little bit loco (depending on how much Tequila you have, that is).

The Slip Inn's pub-like exterior gives no indication of the Mexican-inspired cantina which awaits you within. It looks like your ordinary, run of the mill local. But wander inside and you will stumble upon something much more impressive. 

The street level bar doesn't instantly expose you to the wonder that is El Loco. While inviting with its colourful decor and soft mood lighting, it pales in comparison to what is only a few steps away. You will have to maneuver through a few bar tables to get there, but at the back of the pub is a single door. Unassuming in its design, it doesn't look like anything that spectacular. But step through and you will discover an oasis of sorts amidst Sydney's urban jungle.

The beckoning sound of upbeat music is the first thing you will notice once taking that first step. It pulls you in, enticing you to explore further. As you wander along, intertwining plants and fairylights will guide you to a set of stairs which open up to a buzzing hub of people and margaritas. You'll feel as though you have stepped in to a whole new world, even though just moments ago, you were walking along a regular city street.

Once you have your bearings, you'll want to head to the bar to try the signature 'El Loco Margarita' - it's a must! With this in hand, you can take a seat on one of the multi-coloured bar stools and soak up the atmosphere. El Loco is the perfect place to meet new people, as long bar tables mean plenty of space for mingling. 

As the evening moves along, you might start to feel a bit peckish. This Mexican cantina offers up some of the best tacos you can try. Choose from the likes of Ancho braised lamb, Baja fish, and Conchinita Pibil (Pork), or if you're feeling adventurous, the 'Secret Taco'.

After a few more margaritas, the dance floor will be calling your name, and El Loco's line-up of resident DJs will have you salsa-ing well in to the night. But as with all good things, they must come to an end at some point. As the night draws to a close, you will need to retreat back to the city, leaving your Mexican oasis behind. But this isn't goodbye. With everything El Loco has to offer, you know that you will be back next weekend to experience it all over again.
