You can be forgiven for thinking that you’ve ventured into a whimsical greenhouse when you wander into The Grounds of Alexandria’s enchanting restaurant, The Potting Shed. Surrounded by a plethora of potted plants lining exposed brick walls, and twinkling fairy lights winding around wooden beams, it has all the ingredients needed for a welcoming locale.
But, the experience doesn’t begin here, it starts the second you step foot into The Grounds’ beckoning gates and enter its fairytale-esque gardens. Follow winding lanes lined by colourful trees, where you will come across a cute food cart or two (freshly-squeezed lemonade, anyone?); and keep exploring to come across a beautiful canopy of greenery, where you can sit and mingle beneath a sky of warm twinkling lights. You won't even think that you're in the heart of Alexandria’s industrial bustle. The Grounds' wonderful gardens are the perfect escape from the noise of the busy streets.
This whimsical garden feel continues well into the restaurant, where everything on the menu has a homely feel and is on par with the vibes of the space. Order a ‘Pina Backyarder’ cocktail and a miniature garden pot with a REAL sunflower inside will arrive at your table - How cute is that! The serving plates also have a homely feel, with ceramic, patterned plates resembling those that your grandma uses, serving up some seriously delish comfort meals. Think Angus T-Bone with hand-cut chips, Green Pea Gigli Pasta, and The Shed Cheeseburger, complete with The Potting Shed’s house sauce. Yum! Even cuter, some dishes come plated on a garden spade! You will feel like such a Green Thumb, even if you’ve never gardened a day in your life.
The Potting Shed also has a playful side - you just have to look at the drinks menu to see what we’re talking about! From cocktails garnished with roses, to those inspired by your favourite Pop Queens (think ‘The Taylor Swift’, a fruity gin cocktail, or the ‘Oh Baby Baby’, a grapefruit Negroni Sour), you won’t be short of choice when it comes to drink time. Want more of a Pop fix? Head into The Potting Shed from 6:30pm on Friday nights to enjoy some quality live music. Can this place get any better?
Once dinner’s over, take the time to wander around the rest of The Grounds. It’s a treat for the eyes and there is plenty to explore - even better, every spot is the perfect photo-op! You don't want to miss this.
